Washington D.C. Part I

Picture via. A site we saw in Uptown during DNC.
Please note, we are Romney supporters but did enjoy learning about the convention process
and the impact it has on a city

I got back from the wedding
and Charlotte was going into shut down mode for the Democratic National Convention.
I have never seen anything like it.
The building James works in was completely closed for the entire week.
Almost everyone who works in Uptown was working from home for a week and
most people who live near the city went out of town to avoid the crowds and security problems.
Our apartment building had two security guards/parking enforcers for the entire week.
Despite the fact that I wanted to see the festivities
{even though it wasn't for our political party of choice}
jumping ship seemed like the smart thing to do.

We decided to go to D.C. for a few days.
It has been almost 2 years since we had been and we were both itching to get back.
James could easily work from home and, when possible, see his family for a second.
It worked out perfectly.

We drove up the evening of labor day and Annie slept for quite a bit of the trip.
My phone was taking its yearly dive in a bag of rice
{yes, I have a problem with dropping my phone in water and on pavement}
so James and I chatted the entire way up.
No radio.
Just the two of us.
It was heaven on earth.

Tuesday morning we went on a little adventure in the woods.
And got terribly lost.
James was moving trees. We crossed a river. And trucked through some equestrian park.
But it was fun nonetheless.

We had lunch at the Reston Town Center.
I have been dying to try this place called Sweet Green.
It is a build your own salad place with local ingredients and tons of yummy choices.
It did not disappoint.

That night we had Cafe Rio in with the Barker clan.
Boy do we miss having that place in our backyard.
{Not sure I ever mentioned it but we lived ONE block from Cafe Rio in California}
Yes, it was divine and I ate way too much.
We were able to meet Lizzie's darling boyfriend, Tyler, and catch up with the family.
It was a day full of family and great food.
What can I say, that is just the way I like it.
